 Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and 38 States are Joining Forces to Crack Down on Annoying Robocalls

(Springfield--jc)  -- Democrats in the General Assembly, flush with super majorities in both chambers and a friend in the governor's mansion, will take a different approach to fostering investment and job growth.Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker has said he plans build the state's economy by revitalizing small business growth with improved access to capital, infrastructure improvements and investment in higher education, among other efforts. He's also said he favors a graduated income tax and increasing the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour.Pritzker's new administration and Democrats in the House and Senate have an opportunity to reshape Illinois’ business climate in the next year. Among the issues expected to arise are workers’ compensation costs, property taxes and the state’s debt load.

NORMAL, ILL. – As part of the 10th anniversary of Pork Power: Partnering to Fight Hunger in Illinois campaign, the Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA), Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Illinois Soybean Association Checkoff Program presented the Midwest Food Bank with 10,000 pounds of ground pork. Since 2008 Pork Power has generated over 625,000 pounds of pork - enough for nearly 2.4 million meals - for families throughout Illinois. Farmers and partnering commodity groups give pork and monetary donations all year round.

(Rantoul--jc)  - The Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce and officials with the village of Rantoul are hosting an open house event for long time Lincoln’s Challenge  Director Peter Thomas. The event is set to honor Thomas for his 25 years of service to the Rantoul community. Thomas is set to retire after the current class of cadets graduates later this month. The open house takes place on December 16th from 4-30 to 5-30pm at the Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce office in downtown Rantoul.

 

(Crescent City--jc)  -- Those in the Crescent City area are invited to a school topic meeting tomorrow morning at 10. The community meeting  is set to talk about a consolidation possibility with the Watseka school district. A time for questions from the public will be taken at the meeting.

(Rantoul--jc)  -- Newly elected state representative Mike Marron will hold traveling office hours in Rantoul on Monday. The local state representative will be at the Rantoul Area Chamber of Commerce office in downtown Rantoul from noon to 1pm to talk with constituents.

 

 

(Cissna Park--jc)  One local school has a Christmas time event set for tonight. Students at Cissna Park High School are performing at 6pm. A dinner will be served, but those who just want to go to the performance will be asked for a 5 dollar donation

(Springfield--jc)  --A member of the Legislative Ethics Commission said the panel is getting closer to selecting an inspector general to handle ethics complaints against lawmakers, but the post won't be filled this year.Lawmakers appointed Julie Porter as the temporary inspector general in late 2017 after it was revealed the post had been vacant for several years while allegations of wrongdoing by lawmakers sat on a shelf.Members of the Illinois Legislative Ethics Commission wanted to secure a new inspector general during veto session that wrapped up last month. That didn’t happen.

(Rantoul--jc)  -- Christmas programs will continue at Rantoul City Schools. Several classes at Northview Elementary school were held last night. Next up is a program at Broadmeadow Elementary at 6 on Tuesday night for pre-K through 2nd grade and then on Thursday at 6 for third grade through 5th grade. A Christmas program and dinner for the Boys and Girls Club at Pleasant Acres Elementary school takes place at 4-30 in the afternoon on December 18th.


 

(Rantoul--jc)  If you see a lot of Rantoul police officers at the Rantoul Wal-Mart tomorrow, there is a good reason. It’s the annual “Shop with a Cop.” event. Local officers did fundraising earlier this year and the money raised is being used for the local shop with a cop event. Wal-Mart officials also donated money to help with Saturday’s Christmas gifts.

 

SENECA, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in Illinois are appealing to people in northwestern Indiana to help them solve a 42-year-old cold case. The body of a woman who was shot in the head was found in a ditch in Grundy County in 1976. The body was buried after investigators failed to confirm an identity. Grundy County coroner John Callahan says the case has troubled him since he joined the office in 1994. Deputy coroner Brandon Johnson says a group of psychics recently said the woman may have been from Gary, Indiana.

 

(Cissna Park--jc)  It’s a shopping day with buggy rides, a lighted Christmas parade in one Iroquois County town on Saturday. The day in Cissna Park begins with shopping in the downtown district at 9am. Santa Claus will be at the Cissna Park American Legion Home from 10am until noon with numerous holiday vendors with Christmas gift ideas. The twilight parade steps off at 5pm on Saturday in downtown Cissna Park.

 

(Gibson City-dg)-The CN IC Santa train will make scheduled stops in the area again this year. Tonight it will be in Onarga from 6:30-8:30 pm. On Saturday the Santa Train will make stops in Gibson City from 8am-10am, Melvin from noon until 1:30pm, Roberts from 1:45-3pm, Thawville from 3:30pm-5pm and Gilman from 6pm-8pm. On Sunday it will be in Danforth from 10:30-noon, Ashkum from 1-2:30pm, and in Clifton from 3:30-5:30 pm. 

 

 

(Buckley--jc)  If you like to sing, like hymns and good fellowship, then one local church should be on your list of things to do on Sunday. A Christmas hymn sing starts at 3 Sunday afternoon at St John’s Lutheran Church in Buckley. Refreshments will be served after the event. A free will offering will be taken for the churches organ fund.
