Paxton-Buckley Loda School System and the Paxton Area Mourn the Death of a Popular Educator and High School Coach

(Shelbyville--jc)  -- The Paxton-Buckley Loda School system along with the Paxton area are mourning the death of a popular educator and high school coach.  George Young was a teacher at Paxton High School and then Paxton Buckley Loda High school from 1966 to 1995. He was a girls basketball coach that took two teams to the state tournament. A memorial service for Young is set for Saturday at 1pm at the Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home.

(Bloomington--jc)  --  The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) has announced its 2019-2020 Soy Ambassador Leadership Program participants. Seven individuals will take part in the training sponsored by the ISA checkoff and membership programs.The two-year schedule of events gives participants opportunities to gain leadership expertise, industry exposure and a global perspective. Ambassadors discover challenges and opportunities facing the soybean industry by attending and engaging at key soybean events, including an international trip to see first-hand how ISA invests checkoff dollars outside the country. They include Chandler Bane of rural Arrowsmith and Jake Heeren of rural Sheldon.

Attendees can Sign up for a chance to win a gift card provided by the paxton area chamber of commerce.  The next is for Mom and Pops Kettle Korn Shop in Paxton. Their ribbon Cutting and open house takes place on December 7th at 5pm. Those Attending can Try some Samples and enter to win a gift card to their store.

Governor Rauner vetoed the bill saying Illinois cities already have the power to raise the age to 21 in their own communities.

 

 

(Gibson City--jc)  -- The V-F-W in Gibson City wants to know the names. The names of those who would like  to receive a Christmas basket. The local armed services group is taking names as well as donations for the Christmas baskets now through the middle of December. V-F-W members will be distributing the holiday baskets closer to Christmas. (Paxton--jc)  The effort to bring a giant flag pole and flag to the city of Paxton is gaining ground. The idea came from Paxton firefighter and resident Denny Kingren. Kingren says with the giant cross near Effingham and similar flags in out states, its seemed like a good project for the city of Paxton…

(Onarga---jc)  A fundraiser is set for an Iroquois County man battling cancer. The benefit of Ken Hanford is set for Saturday December 8th  from noon until 3 at the Onarga Christian Church. A soup lunch will be served for a freewill offering. Raffles will also be part of the efforts.

 

(Springfield--jc)  -- Following months of delay, State Representative. Art Turner and State Senator Antonio Muñoz are encouraged to learn opponents of Senate Bill 26-41 are ready to come to the table to reach an agreement to extend safety and tax regulations to the entire car rental industry. The pair say they did not  pursue an override of the governor's veto in the hopes an agreement that can be voted on in January.
