Intent to Strike Notice Filed by Champaign Unit 4 School Teachers.

(Champaign--jc) The intent to strike notice has been filed by Champaign Unit 4 school teachers. That means teachers could strike  on Monday if a new deal is not reached. That would also mean no school for kids in the school district once a strike would begin. Class size and wages remain two subjects the two sides need to solve. There is a meeting between the two sides later today

 

(Springfield--jc)  --The Illinois Department of Public Health has launched an antibiotic awareness campaign to get people to think twice before taking the commonly overused medication.While antibiotics can save lives, people tend to use them when they’re not needed. As much as 50 percent of all antibiotics prescribed are not needed or are not as effective as prescribed, according to an IDPH news release. Such overuse can lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Each year in the U.S., at least two million people become infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria and at least 23,000 die.To fight symptoms of the common cold,  state health officials recommend acetaminophen, nasal sprays, getting plenty of rest and drinking tea with honey for a sore throat.

 

CHICAGO (AP) — Many American parents are on a mission to limit how much time their kids spend on phones and other devices. It's a constant battle, as many kids see screen-time limits as unjustified punishment. Experts say parents should set some limits, but also consider whether their child is healthy, making good friends and doing well in school. And parents need to put down their own devices, too, for screen-free family time.

(Paxton--jc)  -- The city of Paxton’s annual Christmas Tree in downtown Paxton was set up on Monday morning. The lighting of the tree will take place on Friday at 7 PM. Pride in Paxton Director Teri Hancock says there will be hot cocoa and more at the lighting.

(Chicago--jc)  -- Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will join Illinois P-I-R-G for the release of its 33rd annual “Trouble in Toyland” report. It lists recalled toys from the past year, including toys that may be available for sale online. Madigan also will release her annual Safe Shopping Guide, detailing toys as well as children’s products and furniture that have been recalled in the past year.

 

 

(Paxton--ab) The state of Illinois released their latest report cards and the Paxton-Buckley-Loda School district discussed those results and more at the last school board meeting for the district. (Urbana-jc)  -- A Champaign police officer will be honored for his duty to the village of Rantoul and Champaign County law enforcement.  A reception for Champaign County Chief Deputy Allen Jones is set for this afternoon. The event is for the Champaign County Sheriff’s office from 2pm to 4pm. WPXN News would like to thank Jones for all his police service to the area.

(Thomasboro--jc) We now know the names of three Champaign County men who were passengers in a fatal accident from Friday afternoon near Thomasboro. They include 33 year old Brandon Rush of Savoy, 23 year old DaDreon Carter of Rantoul and  Kamereion Barber of Urbana. The driver of the vehicle, 23 year old Johnterrieon Carter of Urbana was fatally injured in the mishap. No medical conditions on the passengers was provided.


 

(Paxton--jc)  -- The City of Paxton’s Christmas tree has been placed in downtown at the intersection of State and Market streets. Workers from the city and Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative placed the tree in downtown on Monday morning.  The Colorado blue spruce was donated by Wes and Pat Dodd from their property on West Orleans. For the city tree the local Paxton Service Club selects a tree to be used by the city. The lighting of the city of Paxton Christmas tree is 7pm Friday night.

 

(Rantoul--jc)  One popular downtown Rantoul business is relocating to the Champaign area. Jill’s Creative Expressions selling its downtown building in Rantoul. Store owners say they are moving the operation to the Champaign area. The business will remain open and will continue to serve the Rantoul area. The building is listed at 99 thousand dollars. Those interested may contact Herman Fogal with Realty 2000.

 

 

(Watseka--jc)  The Iroquois County  Old Courthouse Museum in Watseka, will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, for the Thanksgiving holiday. During December, the museum will be open Sunday December 2nd from 1-4 that afternoon. This will be the regular first-Sunday-of-the-month opening; however, this will also be the time of an open house to celebrate the opening of Christmas Tree Lane and Christmas House Gallery. The general public is invited to come view all the trees and houses and cast their votes for their favorites. Light refreshments will be served during this time, and holiday music will play throughout the museum. On Sunday December 16th,  the museum will again be open 2-7 p.m., which will be perfect for those attending the Iroquois County Christmas Cantata.
