(Urbana-jm) – University of Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman has agreed to a contract extension. The extension will keep Whitman in Champaign through June 30, 2036. The financial compensation starts at $2.15 million for this year then goes up $100,000 each year until a $200,000 raise for the final year of his contract. He is slotted to make $3.15 million in that final year. The deal also includes an annual retention bonus of $500,000 for each year he stays. There are also performance incentives of up to $500,000 per year based on the success of the men’s basketball and football programs. The deal also prohibits Whitman from accepting a job with any other college or university at any time during his employment agreement with the University of Illinois.
