(Champaign–jc) Led by a 65 percent clip from 3-point range, the Illini women took down North Texas, 81-69, at State Farm Center on Sunday afternoon. Now 10-1 this season, the Fighting Illini have tied their best start in program history and are off to their best start in over 40 years. The Orange and Blue had three players score in double figures, led by Berry Wallace's career-high 28 points and nine rebounds.
(Illini-jm) – Fighting Illini football fans received both good news and bad news from the team over the weekend. For the bad news Gabe Jacas and JC Davis announced they will go to the NFL draft and won’t play in the Illini’s bowl game against Tennessee. Luke Altmeyer announced he will play in the game. Safety Matthew Bailey will be out for the bowl game as well after having surgery, and is weighing a decision to make the jump to the NFL as well.
(Champaign-jm) – Former Illinois football head coach Mike White has died. White coached the Illini from 1980-87, leading Illinois to a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl appearance in 1983, coaching the likes of Dave Wilson, Tony Eason, Jack Trudeau and David Williams. He left Illinois with a 47-41-3 record. White had other head coaching stops with the University of California and in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders.
(St. Louis-jm) – Right-hander Dustin May and the St. Louis Cardinals are in agreement on a free agent contract, pending a physical, sources told ESPN on Saturday. He was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Boston Red Sox and together went 7-11 with a 4.96 ERA.
