(Chicago-dg)-Football Hall of Fame Linebacker Dick Butkus has died. Butkus was a feared player for the ferocious hits he put on opponents. Butkus was an 8 time pro bowler for the Chicago Bears. He was also a two time All American at Illinois and helped the Illini win the Rose Bowl in 1963.
Former Fighting Illini great quarterback Juice Williams will serve as the team's honorary captain for tonight's matchup with the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium. Williams started 44 games for the Fighting Illini from 2006-09 on his way to becoming one of Illinois' all-time great quarterbacks. His 2,557 rushing yards are the most ever by an Illini quarterback and he ranks fourth in program history with 8,037 passing yards. Williams led Illinois to one of the biggest upsets in program history when he threw for 140 yards and rushed for 70 yards in a win at #1 Ohio State in 2007. Kick off tonight is at 7pm
