The Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday that Illinois defensive linemen Jer'Zhan Newton and Keith Randolph Jr. were named to The Chuck Bednarik Award  2023 preseason watch list. The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football. The award was launched in 1995, and it is named in honor of Pro and College Football Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik, a two-time Super Bowl champion and the last player in NFL history to play full-time on both sides of the ball (center and linebacker).

 

(Urbana–jc)  – When Tim King received a call on Friday afternoon, he never could have expected who was on the other end of the line. Opting to purchase season tickets for Illinois football's 2023 campaign, King was stunned to learn that he was the Illini's 10,000th new season ticket holder. On the line was Illinois head football coach Bret Bielema and the entire Illini football team. King’s son is a senior at the U of I and a member of the Marching Illini.
