(WPXN-cf)-- The NFL Owners have approved a new playoff format for this season. COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the NFL, and the NFL needed to make a decision of whether the full 17 game schedule could not be completed should the season have to end early. The new playoff format will go from 14 teams to 16 teams, split equally with the NFC and AFC. It is not clear how many games would need to be canceled for a 16 team playoff. ESPN contributed to his report.
