ICYMI--
Last night when during the Illini game a major signing in the MLB took place. I was unable to get a post about it because I was to pumped about the big Illini win. Let’s discuss:
The LA Angles have added another quality player to their roster. Anthony Rendon the former National third baseman signed a 7 year $245 million deal last night. Rendon was a monster for the Nationals last season, and a huge key to their offensive production in the World Series run. Last season he put up these numbers .319 BA, 6.3 WAR, 1.010 OPS, and 34 long balls. His OPS is off the chart, over 1.000 is way above league average. Also, with how many long balls that where hit last season it’s no surprise that he tacked on 34 to the end of that state line(how many of those came against the Cubs?)
The Angels are starting to turn into a very solid franchise with all of the players that they are starting to acquire. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, and now Rendon are their core three. Add LaStella to that mix and you have a very good contact lineup.
That is another player that has entered free agency at the right time with all of these massive deals being signed, but how much of that has to do with his agent, Scott Boras? A lot is the answer to that. Boras could possibly be the first player agent inducted into Cooperstown with all the contracts he has negotiated with his players. Here is a list of players and player salaries he has negotiated.
Bryce Harper- $330 million with the Phillies
Gerrit Cole- $324 million Yankees
Anthony Rendon- $245 million with the Angels
Nick Castellanos- Unsigned
Hyun-jin Ryu- Unsigned
Dallas Keuchel- Unsigned
Mike Moustakas- $64 million with the Reds
