Josh Whitman gets pay raise and contract extension approved by the board of trustees this morning. Whitman was hired in 2016 with starting pay at $600,000 per year. The three-year extension(original contract due to expire in 2021) will now run through the end of 2024 and will raise his salary to $750,000 per year. With that, his salary will rise to $850,000 by 2024.
The extension comes with the success of coach Lovie Smith’s continued success in Big Ten play in recent weeks. As most of you know, Whitman extended Smith’s contracts another three seasons prior to the start of this season. With the faith in his guys that Whitman has hired, he earned the payday himself.
As the cool kids are saying these days, “bag secured.”
