Cardinals Regain Lead in NL Central

The Cardinals rolled to an 8-0 rout of the Cubs to regain a one-game lead over Chicago atop the NL Central. Matt Wieters (WEE’-turz) belted a three-run homer to back Jack Flaherty, who allowed just one hit while striking out nine over seven innings

 

The Mets blanked the White Sox, 4-0.

(Urbana--jc)  -- The Fighting Illini volleyball team has announced their 2019 promotional schedule with a number of events and giveaways set for home matches at Huff Hall this season.vOne of the most popular Illini traditions, Stuff Huff returns for its 14th season on Friday, September 27 as the Illini take on National Runner-up, Nebraska at 7 p.m. CT. Stuff Huff is renowned for its vast crowds, as the Illini have averaged over 2,800 fans per match. Be Sure to wear blue as the Illini look to Blue Out Huff Hall.

(Undated--jc) The 20-19 E I Baseball regular season is complete. The regular season champions are the Buckley Dutchmasters.  The winner of the Dick Franzen Batting award is Gifford Flatville’s Storm Joop. Joop was also given the Ralph Loschen Most outstanding player award. Cade Sestak of Gifford Flatville was selected as the winner of the Virgil Scheiwe award for most outstanding pitcher The Post season tournament begins on Sunday in Buckley and Gifford. The Buckley Dutchmasters are the number one seed and the number 2 seed is the Royal Giants. All games in the post season are 9 inning contests. In Buckley at 1 on Sunday, its Game 7 and the Paxton Swedes. The winner to take on Buckley in game 2. In Gifford on Sunday,  Gifford-Flatville takes on El Paso with the winner to take on Royal in game two.

The winners of the two sites meet the following weekend with a best of 3 game series to decide the tournament winner.

(Urbana--jc)  Let football begin. The University of Illinois football team begins practice today. The Illini will open the season against Akron on August 31st.

Practice starts at 10 this morning. Illini coach Love Smith is in his 4th year as head coach of the program. 

 

It’s Dirt track racing at it’s best at the Farmer City Raceway. It’s the 5th Annual What Up Dog 40 Memorial Race. 1 thousand to win in Late Models plus a full show. See the best in Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Pro Lates. Admission is $12, veterans get in for $5, Kids 12 and under are free. Gates open at 4pm. 


 

Saturday on WPXN it’s our Live Action Auction from 8-10.

 

Then its Xfinity Racing with the Zippo 200 at the Glen at 1:30.

 

On Sunday its the Monster Energy Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen at 1pm.
