MILWAUKEE (AP) — Christian Yelich (YEH'-lihch) of the Milwaukee Brewers has extended his season-opening home run streak to four games, tying the major league record for homers in consecutive games to start a season. Yelich also became the first player to win the MVP award and then homer in his first four games of the next season. The Brewers beat the Cardinals 5-4.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Lucas Giolito took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning in his first start of the season, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 to avoid a three-game sweep in the season-opening series.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Final Four is set and things look different headed into Minneapolis. Virginia is the only No. 1 seed to make it through to the final weekend of the season. Joining the Cavaliers are No. 2 seed Michigan State, No. 3 seed Texas Tech and No. 5 seed Auburn. The Cavaliers and surging Tigers meet in Saturday's first national semifinal, followed by the Spartans and the defensive-minded Red Raiders.
Denny Hamlin raced to his second NASCAR Cup victory of the season, overcoming two penalties on pit road and missing the entry another time during green flag conditions. Hamlin led the final 12 laps. Clint Bowyer finished second, followed by Daniel Suarez, Erik Jones, and Jimmie Johnson.
