Cale's Corner

The return of sports may be just right around the corner. With the State of Illinois moving into Phase Three of the Rebuild Illinois Plan, IHSA officials met today to discuss the return of high school sports to the State of Illinois.

In an official release from IHSA Director Craig Anderson "The IHSA and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) continue to work together to finalize Return to Play Guidelines focused on safely reuniting IHSA coaches and student-athletes within the guidelines of Phase Three of the Governor Pritzker's plan and the IDPH's best practices. We refuse to compromise safety in the process, and anticipate being able to enact and educate our member schools on the Return to Play Guidelines by June 1."

The IHSA is close to finalizing a deal but is still working with the IDPH to make sure that they have a plan that is formulated that will keep all parties safe if the IHSA was able to get into weight rooms, have contact football practices, or conduct summer workouts. There are still more details that need to be worked out before a decision will be made, but the goal is to have the decision by Monday. The guidelines that will be set in place will more than likely follow those in place by the NFHS(read that here https://www.nfhs.org/articles/guidance-for-state-associations-to-consider-in-re-opening-high-school-athletics-and-other-activities/). Whatever happens, it is a stepping stone to getting sports fans lives back to normal, with the plan that was laid out by the NHL, and the NBA(the NBA Plan will be a separate piece tonight) to get the wheels in motion.
