Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Natural Resources are reminding motorists to be alert for deer

(Paxton–jc)  Paxton Fire Fighters were called out last night to Ludlow Coop Elevator. A fan at the local facility caught fire. Volunteers were on the scene for a couple of hours. No damage reports were provided. 

 

 

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Natural Resources are reminding motorists to be alert for deer, which are entering their peak active season, especially at dawn and dusk now through December. In 2022, there were over 14,000 crashes involving deer in Illinois. Of those, 629 caused injuries and four of the crashes resulted in fatalities. If a collision is inevitable, officials say don’t veer. Try to glance your vehicle off the deer and avoid swerving into the opposite lanes of traffic or off the road. The top three Illinois counties for crashes involving deer are Cook, Madison and McHenry counties.

(Urbana-jm) – Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking the public for tips that can help solve an aggravated battery case at the Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center. Officials said a woman became agitated when she was not allowed to bring an outside beverage into the facility, making threatening comments and using inappropriate language around other patrons. When the suspect was asked to leave, officials said she pushed one of them, threw her stainless-steel cup in their direction and threatened to fight the same employee. The suspect was described as being White, approximately 27 to 35 years old, 5′ 6″ to 5′ 8″ tall and 165 to 190 pounds in weight. She was wearing a black swimsuit cover, black sandals and large framed sunglasses with clear stones.

 

(Roberts-jm) – The 2023 Flessner Fall Fest will take place Saturday, October 28th in Roberts. Spokesperson Daniel Flessner says the event is a fundraiser and to raise awareness about muscular dystrophy…

(Urbana-jm) – An Urbana man is being held after he was arrested for having a gun and selling fentanyl. Dontrall Wright was arrested on charges of armed violence, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting a peace officer. Champaign County Task Force members went to raid Wright’s apartment where they found just over 7 grams of fentanyl, scales, plastic bags and a loaded gun. When police went to arrest Wright, he attempted to flee.

 

(Undated-jm) – Grants are promoting Ag Literacy through Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.  Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee and Livingston Counties  will share $647,000 in grant dollars. McLean, Vermilion and Champaign and Will County are also included. Eighty-nine total counties will use the money for education, training, educational lessons and other ag activities during the 2023-2024 school year.

(Springfield-jm) – The Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness wants to hear community input on homeless services. The goal of the gathering is to hear feedback on what needs improvements, what is working well, and recommendations people have for homeless services and the Home Illinois Plan. There will be sessions held across Illinois.

 

(Kankakee County-jm) – U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack spoke with Illinois lawmakers and farmers in Kankakee Monday. While Vilsack stressed that he is concerned there are fewer farmers across the country, he is optimistic about the future. The Agriculture Secretary visited Kankakee last year with President Joe Biden to announce the administration's commitment to new initiatives to boost production of soybean and wheat through double cropping. The secretary said he is deeply concerned that the United States has lost 438,000 farms since 1981. Vilsack said he is excited about the potential for a strong farm bill and budget financing for the next three years. He hopes Congress can agree on a plan quickly to help farmers across the country and reverse the trend of families shuttering their farms. Secretary Vilsack said Congress needs to extend the farm bill by January in order to keep most agriculture assistance programs running.

(Champaign-jm) – The State Farm Center in Champaign is announcing two new acts set to take the stage in the spring. Chicago on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 7:30pm. (Gibson City-jm) – Gibson City police have released their recent activity report. On October 11th, Heather Claeys of Gibson City was arrested for home invasion, battery and criminal damage to property. On October 12th, Trina Renroe of Gibson City was arrested for retail theft.
