(Rantoul-jm) -- Two people have been arrested on drug charges in Rantoul. An officer on patrol on the village's west side saw a vehicle run the red light at Champaign Avenue and Murray Road. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Courtney Stout, whose license was revoked. When she got out of the vehicle a digital scale fell and an officer discovered a bag containing 47.5 grams of cocaine. A passenger, Andrew Lewis, was arrested for possessing more than 100 grams of cannabis. Stout is charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine. Lewis was charged with possession with intent to deliver cannabis. Both are due back in court September 24th.


 

(Champaign-jm) -- The New American Welcome Center at the University of Illinois YMCA unveiled a new plan to Champaign County residents on how best to welcome immigrants to their communities. The Welcoming Plan consists of five topics: economic integration and employment; citizenship and civic engagement; health and well-being; language and education; and public safety.

(Rantoul-jm) -- A Rantoul man is facing multiple charges after a woman was shot last week. Deshawn Buford was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing and eluding police. According to police, as they investigated the shooting involving Bufford’s girlfriend, they received information he might be planning retaliatory action against the shooters. An officer located Buford’s vehicle and attempted to stop it, however he took off and tossed out a loaded gun before being apprehended.

 

 

(Champaign-jm) -- The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a job fair next week. The Get Hired event is scheduled for September 21st from 10-3 at the Hilton Garden Inn. Over 40 businesses are participating.
