More than 4.8 million Illinois residents have received their stimulus payments

(Undated-jm) -- The number of Coronavirus cases in the area increased over the weekend. McLean County has 11 new cases bringing their total to 121. Ford County has 2 new cases bringing their total to 14 cases. Vermilion County has 2 new cases bringing their total to 28 cases. Iroquois County has 9 new cases bringing their total 93 cases. Champaign County has 30 new cases bringing their total to 266 cases. Kankakee County has 128 new cases bringing their total to 671. 

 

(Undated-jm) -- Several hot spots for the Coronavirus are starting to pop up in the area. In Champaign County, Rantoul is reporting 71 cases, Ludlow and Thomasboro has 2 cases each. Mahomet has 11 cases and St. Joseph has 4 cases. In Iroquois County, Clifton is reporting 39 cases, Onarga has 10 cases, Watseka has 8 cases and Crescent City has 8 cases.

(Springfield-jm) -- A think tank is warning that some major road and rail projects in Illinois could get postponed because of an expected shortfall in gas tax revenue of up to $559 million due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chicago Tribune reports that the Illinois Economic Policy Institute said road travel has dropped by nearly half due to the state's stay-at-home order. 

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- The IRS provided a look at how many Illinoisans have received their stimulus payments. According to the new data, more than 4.8 million Illinois residents have received their payments, totaling more than $8 billion in the past four weeks. Nationwide, 130 million people have received payments. More payments are expected to be distributed in the coming weeks.

(Undated-jm) -- Ag producers are now eligible to receive financial help due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Producers are available for assistance through the Small Business Administration's Economic Impact Disaster Loan. The funding was authorized by Congress through the Paycheck Protection Program and CARES Act.

(Undated-jm) -- The weekend saw an increase not only in the number of cases of Coronavirus but also recoveries and active number of cases. McLean County is reporting 88 recoveries, 4 hospitalized and 26 in isolation. Ford County is reporting 7 released from isolation and  6 in isolation. Iroquois County is reporting 25 released, 6 hospitalized and 60 in isolation. Vermilion County is reporting 9 released from isolation and 1 hospitalized. Livingston County is reporting 22 have recovered and 1 in isolation. Champaign County is reporting 114 active cases with 7 hospitalized and 146 recovered. Kankakee County is reporting 130 recoveries.

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- While the weekend saw an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases, the good news is there was no increase in the number of deaths. McLean County remains at 3 deaths, Iroquois County has 2 deaths, Champaign County has 6 deaths, Kankakee County has 32 deaths and Ford, Livingston and Vermilion Counties have 1 death each.

(Springfield-jm) -- According to governor JB Pritzker’s five-phase reopening plan for Illinois, a complete return to normalcy is not possible until a Coronavirus vaccine is available or no new infections are recorded over a sustained period of time. But the creation of a successful vaccine or an immunity through antibodies anytime soon isn't guaranteed. Another problem is that some viruses like the flu can be prevented with a single shot. But for others like HPV and Hepatitis B, individuals must be vaccinated with multiple rounds of antibody injections. Other challenges include mutating strains that can become immune to a vaccine, and the potential for symptoms to reappear in those already infected. Illinois is currently in phase two of the reopening plan, with the earliest the next phase can begin being May 29th.

The school says they are disappointed to have to cancel but did so because of the health and safety of everyone.
