State Public Health Director Doctor Ngozi Ezike. Ezike says about 29 percent of cases are travel related and 44 percent are because of contact with a COVID-19 patient. The rest do not have a clear connection and may be the result of spread of the virus in the community.

The state is mandating that all large scale events in Illinois of over one thousand people be cancelled for the next 30 days and recommends that gatherings of 250 be scrapped as well. SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department on Aging issued an order to state senior centers to “immediately suspend all gathering activities,” including group meals and social activities, in response to the spread of COVID-19. The letter directed area aging agencies to notify providers, staff and clients of the closures within 24 hours. The agencies were also directed to notify those groups of immediate alternatives that will still be available during the group meal suspension, including box lunch services, pick-up options or home-delivered meals.

Illinois Governor J-B Pritzker. Pritzker says you can also pick up a mail in ballot at your local election office. Additionally, election authorities have been working to move polling places usually set up in some nursing homes to other locations.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) --  Illinoisans again paid the highest total state and local tax burden in the nation. That’s according to the annual “Best and worst states to be a taxpayer” report from the financial site WalletHub.  WalletHub researches weighed property taxes, income taxes, and sales and excise taxes as an average across each state and measured it as a percentage of the median U.S. household’s income and behaviors (assumed to buy the nation’s most popular car for instance) and found that Illinois residents pay nearly fifteen percent of their pre-tax income to state and local units of government. In other words, $9,064 will be taken from the typical Illinois household in state and local taxes and fees in 2020.  When weighed against the median state income, Illinoisans paid $8,902.

(Watseka-jm) -- Two Watseka men have been arrested on sex charges. 33-year-old Ruben Irby was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. 68 year old Douglas Stevens was arrested on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

(Watseka-jm) -- Iroquois County Clerk Lisa Fancher is announcing special election hours leading up to the primary. The special election hours are set for Saturday from 8:30-12 at the clerk's office in Watseka.

 

 

(Undated-jm) -- COVID-19 is also impacting local school districts extra curricular programs. All the schools in the WPXN listening area are restricting any programs until April 5th. In addition, both nursing homes in Paxton have visitor restrictions. Yesterday, Piper City Rehab announced visitor restrictions at their facility.

 

 

 

(Springfield-jm) --  A new online contest to find “the coolest stuff made in Illinois" is going on all during March. The first “Makers Madness” is off to a rousing start, said Mark Denzler, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association. More than 256 products have been nominated and people are going to the website, www.makersmadnessil.com, to vote for their favorites. The idea is to let people know about some of the amazing products that are manufactured in Illinois, he said.

 

 

(Springfield-jm) -- The state unemployment rate fell to a historic low last month. January was another record breaking month, as the jobless rate dropped to three point five percent. (Urbana-jm) -- An Urbana man was taken to the hospital after an incident at the Champaign County Jail. The 23 year old unnamed man used a rusty bolt from his cell to cut the inside of his arm.

 

 

(Ashkum-jm) -- Illinois State Police, District 21 in Ashkum will be conducting roadside safety checks in March. WPXN’s Jason Madden reports…

 

 

 

(Rantoul-jm) -- Those who don’t want to go out to get your groceries can now get them delivered. The Rantoul Walmart is now offering grocery delivery services to residents in Rantoul, Thomasboro, Fisher, Ludlow, Paxton and Gifford areas. Fees start at $7.95-$12.95 one time, $12.95 each month and $98 a year.

 

The Saybrook American Legion will hold a chicken and fish fry tonight from 4:30-6:30 pm.
