(Springfield--jc)  --A state lawmaker is defending his bill to allow barbers, cosmeticians, hair braiders and nail technicians to work without a state license.Illinois requires people to obtain a number of hours of training and continued education to get a state license. Cosmetologists are required to get 1,500 hours of education, the same for a barber license. An esthetician license requires 750 hours. The requirement is 350 hours for nail technicians, and 300 hours for hair braiding. There are other regulations for salons and barbershops.State Rep. Allen Skillicorn, R-East Dundee, said his House Bill 5558 was simple. It would allow those practicing various jobs in the cosmetology arena to do so without a license, as long as it’s publicly posted they’re not licensed. He said the idea came about after he got his hair styled by his go-to stylist.

 

 

 

(Springfield--jc)-- Several Republican Legislators along with supporters of the 2nd amendment held a press conference in Springfield on Wednesday to discuss solutions to end delays in FOID card processing, and discussed their shared 2nd Amendment focused legislative agenda. Local State Representative Mike Marron of Oakwood says his office is overwhelmed every week with calls from constituents experiencing long delays for FOID renewals…

Those at yesterday’s event also expressed their concerns that fund sweeps of $28 million from the Illinois State Police fund have led to delays in processing FOID card applications and renewals.



 

(Iroquois County--jc)  -- The Iroquois County Genealogical Society will sponsor a program on Scotland – “Scottish Clans and Castles” – from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Crescent City Community Center, 301 Main Street, Crescent City. Tickets are available now and include lunch; however, though pre-registration is not required, it is requested so the group can make sure enough food will be available, plus seating is limited. There is also a discount ticket price if tickets are purchased in advance, rather than at the door. Dr. Loarn Robertson’s presentation will cover histories, families, castles and genealogical information. Dr. Robertson is a native of Scotland who came to the US to attend the University of Illinois, and he now resides in Tuscola. (Springfield--jc)  -- Misrepresenting a dog as a trained service dog could soon come with a hefty fine under the terms of a new proposal in Springfield.House Bill 3905 would require a person to have their dog professionally trained to wear anything indicating the animal is a service dog or be brought into any business that only allows service animals.The second time someone is found to have misrepresented their pet as a service animal, they could be fined hundreds of dollars.State Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, told the House Judiciary Criminal Committee that this practice can be dangerous.

(Rantoul-jm) -- The Champaign County Clerks office has released early voting hours in Rantoul. Early voting will take place at the Rantoul United Methodist Church beginning March 9th through the 13th from 10 am to 6 pm, March 14th from 10 am to 1 pm, March 15th from 1 to 4 pm and March 16th from 10 am to 6 pm.

 

 

(Gibson City-jm) -- Gibson Area Hospital Auxiliary will be awarding eight scholarships this year. The scholarships are open to those in the Gibson Area Hospital Service Area.
