(Paxton--jc)  -- The subject will be recreational marijuana  use and sales. The place will be the second floor of city hall in Paxton. The city of Paxton long-term planning committee will meet at 7 on Tuesday night to look at options, hear from the public and find the right policy for the city. Monticello, St Joseph, and Gibson City are also area towns looking at the legalization of marijuana issue in the state that becomes law on January first.

CHICAGO (AP) — Public health officials say Illinois is among 24 states affected by a recall of fennel seed products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Mountain Rose Herbs of Eugene, Oregon, is recalling all sizes of its fennel seed, ranging from 4 ounces to 50 pounds. Customers should not consume the seeds and can return the products for a full refund.

The Little Mister and Little Miss Pageant and a Junior Mister and Junior Miss Pageant takes place at 6 in the park pavilion. DJ Myles plays music after tonight’s pageant. (Paxton--jc)  The Paxton Train Depot is open  to to public again. The depot and train car are located in the downtown area of Paxton along North Market Street. The building is full of historic information on trains and train travel through the years in East Central Illinois. 

 

 

(Melvin--jc)  A-H-W L-L-C is growing again. The John Deere dealer with 16 stores in Illinois and Indiana has purchased another John Deere dealership in the area. A-H-W has purchased Arends and Sons of Gibson City. The sale took place this week and the transfer of the business is set for August.

 

 

(Paxton--jc)  -- The cookout at the Paxton IGA will be raising money for the Hands of Christ Food Pantry in the city. On the menu are pork chop sandwiches, chips and soda The cookout runs from 10am until 2pm in the IGA parking lot.

(Mahomet--jc)  --A state senator is questioning a proposed expansion of two public universities on a vacant block in Springfield.Southern Illinois University and University of Illinois, Springfield, say they’re interested in a joint operation to be developed on the block north of the Governor’s Mansion. State Senator. Chapin Rose of Mahomet says with enrollment trending down, he doesn’t see the need.

 

 

(Chicago--jc)  -- Checks totalling $10,000 to a former political operative of House Speaker Michael Madigan from a former ComEd lobbyist are the subject of federal investigators.The Chicago Tribune reports the checks from Mike McClain to Keven Quinn came after Quinn was let go following a sexual harassment retaliation complaint. Both were subjects of federal raids in May.

(Springfield--jc)  --The unfunded liability of downstate police and fire pension funds has grown more than 9 percent per year since 1991.The Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability reports the more than 640 funds combined were more than 75 percent funded in 1991. In 2017, they were 55.4 percent funded. Total unfunded liabilities are more than $11 billion.
