The Ford County Board is Set to Meet and Discuss the Moratorium on Future Wind Farm Projects December 4th

(Paxton--jc)  -- Could water-sewer rates be going up in the city of Paxton. City leaders have been discussing the rates, citing an upgrade of equipment, a look at water flow and some new environmental protection agency requirements. Paxton Mayor Bill Ingold has started a conversation with I-P-E-A to look at ways to maintain compliance with the state. The topic is expected to be addressed at the next public works committee meetings and the full council.

 

 

(Paxton--jc)  -- December 4th is a very important date for wind farms in Ford County, The Ford County board is set to meet and discuss the moratorium on future wind farm projects. Local leaders are set to continue to discuss the balance between positive economic growth in the rural Illinois county, benefits to the local tax base for schools and towns to the potential nuisance to some. The meeting date is one day after the new county board will be set. There are several changes in the make up of the local Ford County board.

(Undated--jc)  Several area American Legion Posts are participating in the Wreaths Across America effort again this year. Cissna Park Legion Post 527 and Buckley’s Byron Hickerson Post 432 are offering their services to area. For a donation of 15 dollars area volunteers will place a wreath at area cemeteries to honor U.S Veterans. The program runs through November 29th and the wreaths will be placed on the graves on December 15th. Contact your local American Legion post members for more details.

CHICAGO (AP) — A wintry storm is battering much of the central Midwest Monday, with blizzard conditions and freezing temperatures from northeast Missouri into southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois, including the greater Chicago area. The blizzard-like conditions at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend grounded hundreds of flights and forced the closure of major highways.

 

(Rantoul--jc) A Rantoul business was robbed of some cash early Saturday morning. Police say someone entered the Rantoul Pizza Pub on Congress Avenue just after closing and forced a female employee to open the business safe. The person took some cash and coins and fled the scene Rantoul police say the person wanted for the theft is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, around 200 pounds. He wore a ski mask and hooded sweatshirt. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Rantoul Police or Champaign County Crimestoppers. That number is 217-373-8477.

 

 

(Sibley--jc)  -- One Ford County town is set to celebrate its business district restoration project on Saturday. It’s a “Night on the Town” in Sibley. The event is from 5 til 7 pm and will feature carriage rides, a women’s barbershop quartet, and a business open house. Sibley Historical Society members will also be selling ornaments. Refreshments will also be served.

 

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois city will help partially demolish a historic shoe factory. Mayor Will Stephens says Murphysboro will lend roughly $50,000 to the owner of the old Brown Shoe factory site. The goal is to demolish portions that are unsafe and erect a fence around the property. The building is more than 100 years old. Brown Shoe employed hundreds of people and produced thousands of shoes a week.

(Chicago--jc)  --Shopping for kids toys isn’t always child’s play, especially toys that have been recalled or could be dangerous.The Illinois Public Information Research Group and the Illinois Attorney General’s office warned consumers about issues associated with slime, internet-connected devices, loud toys, balloons and other items.Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan her Annual Safe Shopping Guide, which highlights hazardous toys and includes all the toys that have been recalled in the past year. The toys included rattlers that could be choking hazards, tents that could cut and a flashlight hat that could overheat creating fire and burn hazards, among others.

 

 

(Saybrook--jc)  It’s the Jinglebell Junction from 9 until 2 on Saturday in Saybrook. The event is set for the Wesbein United Methodist Church in the village. The 2018 Holiday Shopping Survey recently released by Wallet Hub shows 35 percent of Americans plan on spending more than $500 this holiday season, compared to 33 percent in 2017. Meanwhile, 15 percent say they will spend more than $1,001 and 19 percent say they will spend less than $100.The survey also showed more people are better off financially this year compared to last year, with six in 10 people reporting that now versus five in 10 in 2017.Electronics leads the list of most desired holiday gifts at 31 percent followed closely behind by gift cards at 30 percent.
