(Rantoul-jm) -- One person is in custody following an armed robbery in Rantoul Thursday. Three men entered Fashion Nails located in the Maple Grove shopping center with at least one having a gun. When police arrived two suspects escaped out the back and the third out the front where they got into a vehicle and fled. Officers got a license plate number and passed the information to other law enforcement. The vehicle was spotted near Chicago where police say a chase ensued. One person was taken into custody after the car crashed. Two others are still on the loose. Because of the suspects running from police in Rantoul, Eastlawn students and staff as well as J.W. Eater Jr High and Rantoul Township High School students and staff were told to shelter in place.

(Oakwood-jm) -- A second person has come forward announcing their interest in filling the soon to be vacancy for regional superintendent of schools for Champaign and Ford Counties. Oakwood Schools Superintendent Gary Lewis joins Director of Education for Employment’s Nick Elder seeking the Republican nomination to replace Jane Quinlan. Quinlan announced earlier this month that she will not seek re-election next year. Her term will end June 30, 2019.



(Springfield-jm) -- Secretary of State Jesse White, church leaders and organ recipients are recognizing National Donor Sabbath and trying to dispel some of the myths about organ donation. The Sabbath aims to increase awareness about the program and Secretary White wants to make sure people realize that signing up to donate won’t go against their faith. (Undated-jm) -- Secretary of State Jesse White is announcing facility closures for the Veterans Day holiday. Facilities open Monday through Friday are closed today. Facilities open Tuesday through Saturday will be closed Saturday. Facilities will reopen Monday for those normally open Monday through Friday and Tuesday for those open Tuesday through Saturday.


(Champaign County-jm) -- The financially strapped Champaign County nursing home is taking out another loan from the county to cover payroll. The nursing home took out a $50,000 loan from the general corporate fund to cover payroll. The nursing home has been struggling for the past several years financially leaving the county board split on what to do. County Democrats have blocked a plan to sell the facility and will bring their budget plans out next week. County officials say the county will require $1.4 million in budget cuts including layoffs or revenue increases. A budget decision could come at the November 21st board meeting. The nursing home has a backlog of unpaid bills totalling over $3.5 million.


(Springfield-jm) -- The Illinois Department of Employment Security is reminding veterans about the services they offer. I-D-E-S Spokesperson Bob Gough (goff) says they want to help vets get back into the workforce. He urges veterans to visit the department’s website or one of their local offices for assistance. The agency’s website is: ides dot illinois dot gov.
