The open house will take place on Friday, October 27th from noon to 3 in the student union atrium and L and H wings for health professions. (Springfield-jm) -- Farmers had plenty of time in the fields this past week as we hear in the weekly crop report. 21 percent of corn has been harvested and 73 percent is mature. State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener. 23 percent of sorghum has been harvested and nine percent of winter wheat planted. Hot, dry weather prevailed last week leaving average statewide topsoil moisture levels at 36 percent very short, 48 percent short and 16 percent adequate.



(Springfield-jm) -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan and 39 other attorneys general are calling on Congress to pass legislation to make treatment for drug addiction more affordable and accessible. The Road to Recovery Act increases access to treatment for opioid addiction by removing a provision that blocks funding for residential treatment facilities. According to the CDC, in 2015, 33,091 overdose deaths were reported in the U.S. with 1,339 in Illinois. In 2016 that number rose to 64,000 in the U.S. and 1,888 in Illinois.

(Paxton-jm) -- The Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their next lunch and learn in October. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 17th from 12 to 1 at the Cobblestone Hotel west of Paxton. Mayor Bill Ingold will be the featured speaker where he will talk about T.I.F. and grant opportunities for local businesses. RSVP’s must be in by Wednesday, October 11th.


(Springfield-jm) -- Governor Bruce Rauner is urging Illinoisans to get their annual flu shot. Governor Rauner received his immunization, and was joined by State Public Health Director Dr Nirav Shah. They recommend everyone six months and older to get their shot by the end of the month. Shah says it’s the best way to protect yoruself from the nasty bug…

(Champaign-jm) -- Parkland College is accepting applications to fill a vacancy. The trustee position will serve until the Board of Trustees election in April of 2019. Those interested must reside in District 505 including Champaign, Ford, Iroquois, Livingston and McLean Counties and submit a letter of intent and a brief resume to Nancy Willamon by noon on Tuesday, October 10th.
