(Washington-jm) -- The United State Supreme Court has agreed to consider the union fair share case. Governor Bruce Rauner has called the practice of unions taking money from employees paychecks even if they are part of the union unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court has looked at the question twice in the last 5 years. The last time the issue was before the high court was June of 2016 when the justices were split 4-4.


New (Paxton-jm) -- Bikes and cars will be making their way through Paxton tomorrow to raise money for a good cause. Just An Angel will be starting their cruise in Paxton at the Paxton Public House in memory of Caitlyn Ribley who passed away earlier this month after a battle with cancer. (Gibson City-jm) -- The numbers are in for this year’s Ford County Relay for Life. 9 teams and 100 people participated in the Relay for Life of Ford County back in August at North Park in Gibson City. The teams raised over $31,000 for the American Cancer Society.

(Gilman-jm) -- Gilman police have arrested a Thawville man. According to a report from the Iroquois County Sheriff’s police, Gilman police arrested 35-year-old Jesus C. Barbosa on September 27th on an outstanding Ford County warrant charging him with wirt of body. Barbosa was taken to the Iroquois County Jail where he posted bond and was released.

(Springfield-jm) -- Secretary of State Jesse White is announcing his support of Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s lawsuit against the Trump Administration over their attempt to rescind the Deferred Action to Childhood Arrivals or DACA program. Madigan and the attorneys general of 15 other states are suing to block the Trump Administration from ending the program. DACA was implemented in 2012 to help protect immigrants that came to the U.S. as children. It’s estimated around 800,000 “Dreamers” are in the United States including 42,000 in Illinois.

(Ashkum-jm) -- Illinois State Police in Ashkum have released results of recent occupant restraint enforcement patrols. During the patrols, troopers issued 15 safety belt citations and 1 child restraint citation. Troopers remind that everyone in the car including back seat passengers must use a seat belt.



(Loda-jm) -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School athletic department will hold a golf outing at Lakeview Country Club in Loda Saturday. The athletic department is raising money to upgrade the weight room. PBL Basketball Coach Adam Schonauer says they have two flights scheduled…

(Ludlow-jm) -- The village of Ludlow will have a new village attorney. Longtime village attorney Jack Waaler has announced he is stepping down. The village is expected to hire a new village attorney within the coming days. Waaler has recommended the board hire Marc Miller. Miller also serves as city attorney for Paxton and Gibson City.



The Ford County Public Health Department will hold a flu clinic at the Gibson City Telecare today from 9 to 11 a.m.
