(Undated-jm) -- The American Soybean Association is announcing there are less than three weeks left to submit nominations for three awards. The awards include the American Soybean Association’s Outstanding State Volunteer Award, Distinguished Leadership Award and the Pinnacle Award. Nominations can be done online and must be submitted by October 16th.

(Paxton-jm) -- This week the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Panthers are celebrating homecoming. The homecoming court is Kalli Goudy, Kalista Klann, Logan Knuth, Cassidi Nuckols, Cheyenne Wise, Miranda Rudin, Evie Ellis, Dalton Piatt, Keegan Lantz, Adam McMullin, Kody Harrison, Marcus Bowen, Jacob Ager, Keyn Humes, Andrew Swanson and Seth Allen. The homecoming parade will begin at 6 p.m. with the route starting at the high school before going through downtown and ending back out at the high school where the homecoming king and queen will be announced. Also in the parade will be the three newest members of the Hall of Fame, Pete Larson, Sally Peterson Falzone and Walter Elrod.

(Ford County-jm) -- Ford County will have a new coroner next year. Doug Wallace has announced he will step down at the end of the year. Wallace has served as Ford County Coroner for the last 17 years. He cited moving closer to his family in southwestern Illinois as his reason for leaving the position. He has recommended deputy coroner Rick Flessner to be his replacement.




(Springfield-jm) -- Governor Bruce Rauner is signing legislation to help protect those who are intoxicated. The Governor signed Conor’s law which increases public safety by requiring law enforcement to develop policies regarding to the response and care of intoxicated young adults after being arrested including attempts to contact a responsible adult. The legislation is named after 20-year-old Conor Vespar, who committed suicide after he was arrested for driving under the influence.


(Undated-jm) -- One area lawmaker is promoting the new education funding formula. State Senator Jason Barickman of Bloomington was one of the members of a task force created by the Governor to look into how to reform the funding formula to make it more fair. Senator Barickman says the new formula will help downstate schools…

(Champaign County-jm) -- District 10 Illinois State Police in Pesotum have released results of recent alcohol countermeasure enforcement patrols. During the patrols, 1 person was arrested and cited for DUI, 2 were cited for registration offenses and 3 people were cited for driver’s license offenses. State Police remind that alcohol or drugs are involved in about 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes and that 1 person is killed every 53 minutes in the U.S. from a drug or alcohol related accident.

(Paxton-jm) -- The Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their next lunch and learn in October. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 17th from 12 to 1 at the Cobblestone Hotel west of Paxton. Mayor Bill Ingold will be the featured speaker where he will talk about T.I.F. and grant opportunities for local businesses. RSVP’s must be in by Wednesday, October 11th.
