(Urbana-jm) -- An Onarga man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for holding up three businesses Champaign, Savoy and Gilman. 20-year-old Lucas Martinez pleaded guilty in July to two counts of aggravated robbery for his role in the hold ups of a Circle K convenience store in Savoy, a Circle K convenience store in Urbana and the McDonald’s in Gilman. Martinez admitted he was the driver for Tyran Mueller and Tevaughn Brownlee. Mueller was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the two hold ups in Champaign County. Brownlee was sentenced to six years in prison for the hold up in Iroquois County.

(Mahomet-jm) -- An area state lawmaker has been appointed to a task force to ensure clean drinking water for area residents. State Senator Chapin Rose was appointed to the Mahomet Aquifer Task Force. The task force will develop a plan to maintain the quality of the groundwater in the aquifer as well as identify potential contamination threats and action to ensure long-term protection of the aquifer. The group will report their findings to the General Assembly by July 1st 2018.

(Thomasboro-rb)- The Thomasboro Street dance is rescheduled for this Saturday September 9th after being rained out on May 20th. Gates open at 6 with a five dollar cover to get in. Relentless will start off the night before Flatville Road takes the stage at 8 and will play until 11.

(Urbana-jm) -- A Fisher man was sentenced to four years of probation after pleading guilty to identity theft. 40-year-old Michael Brock pleaded guilty in Champaign County court to using a relative’s personal information to open a credit card account at a jewelry store in Champaign, then purchase about $4,000 worth of jewelry.  He was also sentenced to spend 23 days in the county jail with credit for time served. In return for his plea, a separate case alleging he used a forged credit card was dismissed.

(Gibson City-jm) -- Gibson City continues to accept donations for the construction of a skate park in memory of former alderman Ed Day. Day was working to get a skate park in the community when he passed away suddenly. Donations can be made to the City of Gibson and mailed to P.O. Box 545, Gibson City, IL 60936 with Ed’s Skatepark in the memo line.
