SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois officials say the fairgrounds in Springfield and DuQuoin will be ready for summer state fairs, but that major updates await private fundraising and a state spending plan. The State Journal-Register reports emergency funds are available to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, and that $600,000 has been used to enclose a warm-up arena before the 76th annual Midwest Charity Horse Show this week. The show's usual home is a century-old facility that was shut down for safety reasons.

(Paxton-jm) -- A Paxton food pantry is receiving a donation to help them better serve users. The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is donating $4,550 to the Hands of Christ Food Pantry. The food pantry will use the money to buy a larger, reach in cooler.



(Springfield-jm) -- Republican lawmakers are offering a budget and reform plan they say will break the impasse. The proposal includes term limits, pension and school funding reform, a four year property tax freeze, a cap on state spending and money to pay some old bills. CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Republicans have presented what they're calling a "compromise" budget and reform plan to end the state's nearly three-year budget impasse. It was a familiar refrain Wednesday with Republicans presenting an outline for a four-year property tax freeze, term limits and pension reform, among other things. House Republican Leader Jim Durkin said that with those changes, Republicans will agree to a four-year income tax increase. Democrats say they've already taken up many of those reforms.

(Ludlow-jm) -- Two people were taken to the hospital following a house fire in Ludlow early Wednesday. Firefighters were called to the fire in the 200 block of Katie Avenue. When they arrived they found flames coming from the front room of the house. The two residents were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Fire officials say the cause is believed to be electrical. The house was a total loss.

(Ashkum-jm) -- Illinois State Police have released results of recent roadside safety checks. 1 person was cited for driving under the influence, 4 were cited for other drug or alcohol related offenses, 10 for occupant restraint offenses, 7 for driver’s license offenses and 18 for insurance violations. State police remind that drug and alcohol impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.



(Springfield-jm) -- Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs is urging the Governor to sign a bill that makes sure families receive death benefits when they lose a loved one. The measure requires life insurance companies to check their records back to the year 2000 for any death benefits that were never paid says Treasurer Frerichs…
